Artificial intelligence is a branch of computer science, involved in the engineering, research and application of intelligent computer. Researchers have made significant contributions by developing numerous tools and methods of structure design but at the same time, the field demands further work to come up with new ideal solutions for various ongoing issues. Research study reveals that Artificial Intelligence based method can provide efficient options for solving complex problems in structural design up to some extent. This paper identifies the issues in each of the stages of the structural design process and possibility of AI techniques to overcome these identified issues. Additionally the paper provides an overview of the advances of AI applied in structure design process.
